Mt. Tabor Farmstead CSA FAQ’s
is there a work requirement?
No. But please feel free to contact us if your family wants to visit our farmstead.
What is the quality like?
Everything we grow is naturally produced, growing our food the way nature intended. Feel free to check out our “how we grow” page on our website for more information. We harvest our vegetables and flowers the day before delivery/pick up and carefully package everything to ensure its peak freshness stays intact.
What is the quantity like?
Each of the 20 Boxes will vary slightly week by week due to the nature of seasonal eating. We strive for consistency, so there will always be plenty of produce to create about 4 meals for a family of 4. There will always be a variety of produce, but some weeks there will be more greens and herbs and other weeks more root vegetables for example.
Will I know what’s in my share in advance?
Yes, our CSA newsletter will be sent out via email a couple of days before you pick up or we deliver. We will include some notes about what has been happening on the farmstead that week, unique recipes and what’s in the box.
*Occasionally there may be surprises but we will be as accurate and communicative as possible to help you with meals and shopping for the week.
What if I don’t know what something is?
Included with each selection of vegetables will be info and a recipe with how you can use one or more veggies in the box. Plus, we will include additional ideas on how to store, prepare, and preserve your harvest to help you get inspired and enjoy the seasonal harvest even more.
We love trying new recipes so feel free to send us yours if you come up with something great you would like us to share with our members!
What if I really don’t like something in my box?
For those customers picking up, we will always try and have a “swap” basket on site so if there is really something that you can’t stand, you will have the opportunity to trade it with something else.
As part of our CSA you will have the opportunity to list some of your preferences so we can try and be as accommodating as possible. We want you to be happy!
What kinds of vegetables are in my bin?
Spring: arugula, beets, carrots, garlic scapes, green garlic, bunching onions, salad greens, herbs (oregano, basil, thyme, mint), kale, turnips, radishes, snap peas
Main Season: arugula, beans, beets, broccoli, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, cucumber, kale, lettuce, melons, onions, shallots, eggplant, okra, peppers, spinach, kohlrabi, potatoes, garlic, radishes, herbs (basil, sage, thyme, oregano, mint, dill, tarragon), salad mix, squash, zucchini, horseradish, turnips, tomatoes…
Fall: beets, beans, storage roots, winter squash, kohlrabi, daikon radish, bok choy, tat soi, kale, okra, peppers, turnips, carrots, swiss chard, eggplant, herbs, arugula, sweet potatoes…
How do I pay?
We are a non-traditional CSA model and prefer, in these challenging economic times, to have payment plans that help our community out.
We currently are asking for a two time payment option, not a one time (large) payment in the beginning of the season with the hope that this makes our farmstead boxes more manageable for families. $350 will be due on the first day of pick up May 24th and the second installment of $350 in August.
What if there is crop failure?
Part of being a member of a CSA means we share the risk. In a typical season we have a good sense of how much and what crops we need to grow in order to make our customers happy. We plant a very large variety of crops and will always be upfront and transparent about what’s “growing on” in our gardens. The CSA comes first for us before the farmers market or wholesale, so you will always get the very best of what we grow, no matter what.
What if I’m late or forget?
We get it, it happens, but produce is perishable. Text or call us and If we do not hear from you by end of day your share will be donated.
What if I go on Vacation?
If you can have family pick up your box for you and share the wealth, that would be great! Otherwise, we will handle this on a case by case basis.
Can someone else pick up my box?
Yes, absolutely.
What is your cancellation policy?
As a true CSA, we share into risks and rewards of the growing season. You provide us with critical funds to help us sustain our farmstead. We plan our crops based on your participation and commitment for the entire season and are unable to offer refunds at this time. If you are truly unhappy or need assistance please let us know. We will review cancellation requests when extenuating circumstances arise.
